23 Years Later

Still going stronger than ever. After celebrating our 23rd anniversary at the clubhouse. Its always good to reflect on the times we’ve shared in the past. Along with the progression of the club. Starting from our first meeting in a Sears parking lot in Hicksville; back in 2002. We’ve come so far and become a trusted name in the 3S community.

Now that we’ve started NY Drive Motor club to include all makes and models. I think we’ll grow in the same fashion as 3SNY did.

It’s A Balancing Act

After installing coilovers on your car. Its vital to have your car corner balanced to get the maximum potential out of them. I have recently purchased corner balancing scales to achieve this. As you can see in the images below. The scales present the total weight of the car with me in it and without me in it. The percentages represent each corner of the car and how the weight is distributed.

The most common example that people use to explain its importance is a table with un-even legs. The most common explanation of its importance is by using the example of a table. We all know how sitting at table or work surface with uneven legs is incredibility annoying and disruptive. Thats whats happening to your car when the weight isnt properly distributed. Things will lean and roll to areas its not supposed to. When you apply pressure to the table; it will bang and twist. Thats whats happening to your driving experience when things are not balanced properly. The images below show that there is a significant percentage of weight applied to the front of the car. This will translate into more dipping to the nose under hard braking, less grip to rear tires, and uneven tire wear.

Financially, it doesn’t make sense for a person to buy this for themselves unless they are racing consistently. The shop I used in the past cost me $300.00 for their services vs what i paid for the equipment which is over $2000.00. Typically, once you set your car up. You don’t require height adjustment on a frequent basis. In addition to scales there are other pieces of equipment I acquired to tune the suspension. So to offset the cost of all this equipment. I purchased the equipment with my own money and will hope to recoup my costs from individual sessions. I didn’t feel that its fair to pull from the club’s budget for something like this because members that do not have the capability to adjust their heights would not benefit.

Once I have finalized the setup. Members will be able to schedule a time with me and I will set you guys up. If your car has the capability; the session would include setting up camber, toe, corner balancing, and verifying thrust angle. The process will take roughly 4 hours. With regards to cost; im not sure what it will be yet. But definitely not $300.00. The point of the club is that everyone is running as best as it can be in the most cost effective way.

Product Update

The plates that go over the struts have been adjusted for better fitment. The box that connects both bars have been redesigned to better accommodate the ground wire. Additionally the vanity cover has been produced to provide a cleaner looking product. We changed the overall sizing of the bar by less than 1/8” of an inch. By doing so; it significantly dropped the cost of materials. I have confirmed a large joint buy in with 3SX that will ultimately dropped the cost for the “members” only.

The addition of the vanity cap design has been completed and now in the production phase. Although the cap doesnt add any structural integrity. I felt it would ultimately be the cherry on the sundae. Not only does it hide where the ground wire is secured to the fire wall. The cap will provide numerous customization opportunities to suit your desires. To give you an idea of what you can do with the cap. You can have them lazer cut for designs and patterns. Once cut you can install LEDs to shine through cutout designs and/or shine into your engine bay. You can have it powder coated or polished to accentuate the bar. The cap and box will be pre drilled to accept included hardware but even those will be customizable. Needless to say there are unlimited customization options all from adding that one piece.

Cost are not yet finalized but will be soon. But as soon as they are. The members get first dibs.
